Mental Health For The Mentally Ill - 999 Words
Mental Health Brief Whatââ¬â¢s the issue? The lack of mental health services available to the mentally-ill and the deinstitutionalization of mental health hospitals have created a public health concern. These issues along with failed continuum of care strategies and a lack of community mental health services are major contributing factors to homelessness. In addition, the strict guidelines for psychiatric hospitalization are critical when analyzing homelessness among the mentally-ill. In many cases, only the critically-ill are meeting clinical criteria for hospitalization, leaving those who have significant mental health problems to fend for themselves. The link between homelessness and mental health is acknowledged, but requires reform (Bean Jr., G. J., Stefl, M. E., and Howe, S. R, 1987). A study completed by Folsom (2005), shows a correlation between homelessness and untreated mental health issues in the United States. The research suggests that approximately one-third of the homeless population has a significant mental health diagnosis such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, or major depression. However, those who remain untreated and have additional risk factors such as lower socioeconomic conditions or substance abuse issues are more likely to become homeless. The research also suggests that men have a higher rate of homelessness than women. In particular, African American men have a higher rate of homelessness than those from other ethnic backgrounds. Jean Arp Biography Essay Example For Students
Jean Arp Biography Essay Art is a fruit that grows in man, like a fruit on a plant, or a child in its mothers womb, once commented Jean Arpa remarkable twentieth-century sculptor, painter and poet associated with and a forefather of the Dada and Surrealist movements. The avant-garde artist was born on September 16, 1887 in Strasbourg, France, where he studied at the Ecole des Arts et MÃÆ'à ©tiers. In 1905, he transferred to the Weimar Academy and then to Paris at the AcadÃÆ'à ©mie Julian in 1908, and subsequent to graduation resumed his painting in Weggis, Switzerland in isolation. By 1912, Jean Arp had become associated with the Blaue Reiter, or Blue Rider, a group of Expressionist artists in Munich, where he exhibited semi-figurative drawings and became well-acquainted with fellow artist Wassily Kandinsky. In 1913, he exhibited with another group of Expressionists at the first Hebrstsalonor Autumn Salon, an art exhibitionin Berlin. Aware of the developments within the French avant-garde through his contacts with such artists as Apollinaire, Max Jacob and Sonia and Robert Delaunay in 1914, Arp presented his first abstracts and paper cutouts in ZÃÆ'à ¼rich in 1915 and arranged his first shallow wooden reliefs and compositions of string nailed to canvas. In 1915, the art of Jean Arp consisted of abstract and angularly patterned tapestries and drawings, but soon matured as he became the co-founder of the revolutionary Dadaist school of artists in ZÃÆ'à ¼rich, Switzerland with Tristan Tzara and Hugo Ball. His familiar abstract and curvilinear forms debuted in 1917, and in 1919 he continued his Dadaist portrayals with Ernst in Cologne before participating in the Berlin Dada exhibition of 1920. Jean Arp married Sophie Tauber in 1922, during a period where he was most notable for his painted wooden bas-reliefs and humorous cut-cardboard constructions. He settled with his wife at Meudon in 1927, when he participated in the Surrealist movement and had his first one-man exhibition at the Galerie SurrÃÆ'à ©aliste in Paris. He then parted with Surrealism to become a co-founder of Abstraction-Creation in 1931, when his characteristic organic forms became more severe and geometrical. In the 1930s, Jean Arp began to work in freestanding sculpture, carving and molding a variety of substances. An example of his smooth, biomorphic forms is the marble Human Concretion, 1935, located in the MusÃÆ'à ©e National dArt Moderne in Paris. Arp was tenacious in correcting art critics as to the nature of his sculptures; he insisted that his pieces were concrete rather than abstract, since they occupied space, and that art was a natural generation of forma fruit that grows in man, as he had st ated. Jean Arp visited the United States in 1949 and 1950 to finish a monumental wood and metal relief for Harvard University; in 1958, he composed a mural relief for the UNESCO Building in Paris. He was awarded the international prize for sculpture at the Venice Biennale in 1954 and the 1964 Pittsburgh International. Arp died on June 7, 1966 in Solduno, Switzerland, survived by his second wife, Marguerite Arp-Hagenbach. A dominantà personality within abstract art, Dada and Surrealism, his reliefs and sculptures have had a decisive influence upon the sculpture of this century.

Coeducational classes mandated by 1972 law, pros cons, teacher student attitudes, biological issues. Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 sought to eliminate sex discrimination in the public school systems throughout the United States (Lirgg, 1993, p. 324). Title IX, as the act is commonly called, prohibited the offering of same-sex courses and programs. All-girl home economics, all-boy industrial-arts, and same-sex physical education classes were no longer an option for school districts receiving public money. Coeducational physical education had arrived. The social, psychological, and physiological aspects of this change in policy, with regard to physical education, had not been addressed prior to the passage of the legislation. The legal mandate, Title IX, was made before all the risks and benefits, to the children, could be assessed.

tom hanks essays From a stressful childhood to a successful career, Tom Hanks has mastered every angle of film making. While discovering drama in high school, Hanks chose acting as his career choice in college upon seeing The Iceman Cometh. After years of hard work and dedication, Hanks made it to the big screen where he has progressed ever since. Still continuing to act, Tom Hanks has been producing, directing, and writing screen plays. Born on July 9, 1956, in Concord, California, Thomas J. Hanks was the son of Amos and Janet Hanks. His Parents split up when he was five, and the three oldest kids (Hanks was the third) went with their father, Amos, a chef by trade who uprooted the family about every six months chasing after a job (Tom Hanks). His father married two more times after divorcing Toms mother. Eventually, in 1966, they settled down in Oakland California when Tom was ten. During that nomadic period of five years Hanks attended six different grammar schools. Tom finally found a home at his high school, Skyline High, where he was big on athletics. It was also during high school that he discovered acting. It was when Tom watched a friend perform in the schools production of Dracula that he first considered acting. Later he won roles in Night of the Iguana, Twelfth Night, and South Pacific. As a senior year Hanks was honored with Skylines highest acting award, Best Actor. Math Economics Assignment Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words
Math Economics - Assignment Example If the price of a close substituteââ¬âa product that you view as similar or identical to the one you are considering purchasingââ¬âis much lower than the price of Leviââ¬â¢s jeans, you may buy that other brand instead. The price of a complement, , -a good that you like to consume at the same time as the product you are considering buyingââ¬âmay affect your decision. If you eat pie only with ice cream, the higher the price of ice cream, the less likely you are to buy pie 3. Consider a profit maximizing firm which rents capital K at rate R in order to produce goods q via the production function . Assume the firm takes the goods price as given. If determine the firmââ¬â¢s demand for capital. Compute the marginal rate of substitution (MRS) between goods x and y. Compute an equation characterizing the agentââ¬â¢s indifference curve, and compute the slope of this curve. Compare this slope to the MRS. Use the MRS to compute the demand curves for x and y. Are the goods x and y complements? Substitutes? Now that we have the marginal rate of substitution, we can find out what happens to the relative consumption of X and Y as we move along the consumerââ¬â¢s indifference curve. To see what occurs as X increases, we take the partial derivative of MRS XY with respect to X: The consumerââ¬â¢s marginal rate of substitutionââ¬Å ââ¬âââ¬Å the slope of the indifference curveââ¬Å ââ¬âââ¬Å remains the same as her consumption of X increases or decreases along the indifference curve. In other words, the consumption of commodity X has no any direct effect on consumption of commodity Y. thus the goods are not substitute but are compliments to each

Important Symbols in the play Trifles Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Important Symbols in the play Trifles - Essay Example Generally, the setting of the play is somewhat focused in the kitchen and the staff. The kitchen stuff is irritably prescribed by men as worthless. Furthermore, there are other things in the kitchen including sewing box, shawl, apron and quilt. These paraphernalia then wonder whether Mrs. Wright is going to not or quilt her half-finished quilt. Susan Glaspell uses symbolism as device to highlight certain issues that afflict women. Additionally, Glaspell ingeniously uses this symbolic feature to bring to the limelight the view and perceptions that men have toward women (Glanspell 45). This point, therefore, brings to us how careful Glaspell was in choosing her characters. Her female characters make us see that men assume that women more often than not, worry unnecessarily about worthless and or unimportant issues. This kind cynicism concludes that itââ¬â¢s only men who associate themselves with important matters that will never across the minds of women, or slip out of their mouths while they are discussing. Come to think of it, the male characters spend in the whole play searching for solutions to solve a murder case. Ironically, however, it is the two female characters, Mrs. Hale and Peters, that is, who finally get the evidence and solve resolutely the murder case, not the two men. Canary bird in the cage is one of symbol that Glaspell brilliantly uses in his play. For one thing, this canary bird represents Mrs. Wright herself and her heart. The bad is capable of singing sonorously, as Mrs. Wright singed in the church before getting married to her husband Mr. Wright. Come to think of it, she is the bird, caged and confined like a prisoners to woes. Mr. Wright is perfect character who represents the cynicism of men who believe that they rightly own women, and that they have well full control over women. Additionally, Mr. Wright represents the notions of men who think that women have no brains at all, to think correctly. For, instance, the manner in which th e name ââ¬Å"Wrightâ⬠is written connotes that men always think that they are always right, and that they always think wisely (Glanspell 68). Mr. Wright, sardonic act of killing Canary symbolizes that it is right to murder his wife, Minnieââ¬â¢s personality and freedom. Ideally, the bird before it was killed was associated with peace and freedom. Conversely, after Minnie was married to Mr. Wright, she is hardly seen getting out of the house, and stopped singing in the church. Furthermore, she was no longer known as Minnie, but as Mrs. Wright. Mrs. Hale and Mrs. Peters eventually find out that the real killer of Mr. Wright is his wife. It is at this point that the two women understood Minnie humiliation over staying in place where there is no freedom. For one thing, Minnie wanted a child, but her husband could not allow it to happen. The killing of Mr. Wright symbolizes that women can stay independently without men. The dirty kitchen is also symbolic. To be true, the dirty k itchen offers a symbolic explanation of the messiness of the kitchen. Ideally, the dirtiness of the kitchen also offers a symbolic interpretation of something. It represents that Mrs. Wright Minnie was now liberal. She was not going ever to wait for anyone. She too was no going to ever fear anyone. We also see that the two women, Mrs. Hale, and Mrs. Peters being protective of Mrs. Wright. The two women rose up for Mrs. Wright when she was point blankly criticized for having a dirty kitchen. The two women bravely affirmed that men fail to keep their hands as

Counseling Class Final Exam Paper Essay Example for Free
Counseling Class Final Exam Paper Essay After this class and taking all the different assessments and inventories, my number one career choice as of right now is an Elementary School Teacher. The tests have actually helped me learn a lot about myself and helped me determine what certain fields of work I would succeed in. Being an Elementary School Teacher would be a fulfilling career, and would allow me to be creative and interact with children, which are two things that are very important to me. 2. On the Myer-Briggs Type Indicator, my four letter word was INFJ, which stands for introversion, intuition, feeling, and judgement (although my scores between extroversion/introversion and judgement/perception were a point off). According to the Myer-Briggs personality description, INFJs prefer occupations that involve the big picture, involve conceptual awareness, and lead to a better understanding of the spiritual, emotional, of future needs of people. They want their work to have impact or meaning and for it to bring them admiration and respect. Different occupations that seem to be attractive to INFJs include education consultant, English teacher, fine arts teacher, psychiatrist, psychologist, social worker, scientist, and other occupations that allow INFJs an opportunity to make their own creative contribution. The list of occupations INFJs seem to enjoy include a lot of education type career choices, so elementary school education would be right up my alley, according to this assessment. Being an elementary school teacher would allow me to be creative and also allow me to help children learn, not only academically, but socially as well. My Holland Code was ISA which stands for Investigative, Social, and Artistic. Investigative people are known as ââ¬Å"The Thinkersâ⬠. These are people who like to observe, learn, investigate, analyze, evaluate or solve problems. Artistic people are known as ââ¬Å"The Creatorsâ⬠, They have artistic innovation or intuition abilities and like to work in unstructured situations using their imagination and creativity. Social people are known as ââ¬Å"The Helpersâ⬠and are people who like to work with people to enlighten, inform, or help. Elementary education is a Social college major. According to the occupational scales on the Strong Interest Inventory, I scored a 56 for Elementary School Teacher, which means I share interests with women in that occupation and would probably enjoy the work. Teaching amp; Education was also number two on my tops five interest areas. The personal style scale reveals many different things. As for my work style, I prefer working with people, I enjoy helping others, and I am outgoing. In a learning environment, I prefer academic environments; I learn well through lecture and books, and I seek knowledge for its own sake. As for my leadership style, I am comfortable taking charge of and motivating others, I enjoy initiating action, and I express my opinions easily. I think being an elementary school teacher would be a good match for me, according to the Strong Interest Inventory. It would allow me to observe, investigate, and solve problems, as well as help and inform children, and it would also allow me to be creative; which fulfills all aspects of my Holland Code. My top five values according to the Work Values Inventory are Altruism, Way of Life, Prestige, Economic Returns, and Security. Altruism is present in work which enables one to contribute to the welfare of others. As an Elementary school teacher, I would definitely be contributing to the welfare of my students and helping them to blossom and thrive in academic and social settings. Way of Life is associated with the kind of work that permits one to live the kind of life she chooses and to be the type of person she wished to be. Elementary school teachers normally work nine months out of the year. Those other three months off would allow me to spend time doing other things I love, like vacationing or spending quality time with my family. Also, I plan on being a parent after I get married and find a stable job. My schedule would correlate with the schedule of my future children and allow me to spend more time with them, which is very important to me. Prestige is associated with work which gives one standing in the eyes of others and evokes respect. An elementary school teacher may not be the most prestigious job in the eyes of some, but it definitely is in the eyes of the students. When I was in elementary school, I admired all of my teachers greatly. Educating the next generation and giving them a solid foundation on which to apply further education, I believe, is a very respectable career. Economic returns is associated with work which pays well and enables one to have the things wanted. Elementary school teachers make a decent amount of money, and although it might not be the highest paying job, Iââ¬â¢m willing to push this value to the side to fulfill the others and do something I would really truly enjoy. Confucius once said ââ¬Å"Choose a job you love, and you will never have to work a day in your life. â⬠Security is associated with work which provides one with the certainty of having a job even in hard times. According to the Eureka program, there are very many estimated jobs in elementary education within the next 20 years and the estimated growth is above average. My top ten skills based on my skill assessment results were Integrity, Questioning, Synthesizing, Tact, Understanding, Dependability, Tenacity, Advising, Cooperating, and Investigating. As an Elementary School teacher, I think you definitely need integrity. Actually, i listed this skill as a Very Satisfying skill, and is also listed as a Very Satisfying skill for Elementary school teachers. I think as an Elementary School teacher you need to be able to synthesize many different elements into your lesson plans. As for tact (a keen sense of what is appropriate, and what to say or do to avoid giving offense), I think it is an important skill for every career choice. I listed tact as a Very Satisfying skill and many Elementary School Teachers listed tact as a Moderately Satisfying skill. Understanding and dependability are very important skills for any career choice and are especially important when working with younger kids. I listed dependability as a Moderately Important skill and many Elementary School teachers did as well. Advising could be a helpful skill while trying different methods of learning certain subjects. Also important if a student was seeking my help. Cooperating is an important skill, because as an Elementary school teacher, not only will i be working with children, but I will also be interacting with their parents and other teachers. 6. Going forward from this class, I plan on majoring in Liberal arts at either Cal State Fullerton or Cal State Long beach, and from there I plan on getting my teaching credentials and ultimately becoming an Elementary School Teacher!
